The JMS 145: Battlestar Crack-lactica [leaves footy taste]
Posted by Josh | Filed under Meaningful Labor, The Josh Mormann Show
I have really lost it, too much Battlestar, and other ridiculous fiction the past few days. I don’t make sense, and I say things that may come off as offensive to some, although probably not, but in my whacked out mental state, I assumed so repeatedly, and basically just keep my foot in my mouth the entire show. I also prove I can’t read aloud, and that I can put on a crappy English accent when reading poorly.
Oh I don’t know, enjoy the show:
The Josh Mormann Show - 145
The tech story I couldn’t read:
The Web’s Dark Energy
The Seth Godin Blog Entry I referred to:
Let Me See from Seth’s Blog
The Book series I can’t start let alone finish:
The Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer
Just for the record, I’m really happy for Stephanie Meyer for getting published, and being so succesful and from coming out of nowhere to do so well for herself. Her books obviously have a real appeal to the people she intends to reach. The book is convincing for what it is, and she does a great job of helping the reader suspend her disbelief and allow for the kinds of characters her book includes. However I personally cannot care much less about the story that is told with her convincing characters thus far.
I was expecting the story to be more universally compelling, not merely a complicated romance story. Having not finished the book, it is possible, that something might happen worth discussing something may just open up in the second half, but I haven’t the desire to read much further. I can no longer rely on the hope that something might happen. I’ve read too many books, and watched too many movies that have lead me on with expectations of “something”, where I was ultimately only fooled by my own expectations, that I really am struggling to bring myself any further along in this book. As for Ms. Meyer however, I wish her the best of luck and continued phenomenal success.

Josh Utterz: Monday Morning
Posted by Josh | Filed under Me, Meaningful Labor, The Josh Mormann Show
This is pretty wild, I’m not sure exactly what I’m doing wrong, but I can’t just create an “Utter” and have it be a part of my feed. I have to manually come in, and force the entry to make an “enclosure” for the Utterz MP3 file. Using a Plugin I found last night. It’s still pretty easy to use though. I just have to do a couple things, and I have a post ready to go.
So it’s not totally smooth… Big deal. It’s smoother, and that’s better than not as smooth ;)

The JMS 133: On the Porch Talkin’ Mac Minis
Posted by Josh | Filed under Meaningful Labor, The Josh Mormann Show
On the Porch with the field recorder again. Talkin’ all kinds of issues at work. I decide to get a new Mac Mini, and bring it in, and forever replace the need to bring the laptop back and forth. I already bought the KVM switch for it like three or four months ago, so it’s time I really began to use the thing for what it was intended, not just extending my laptop at work. I’d rather not bring the laptop at all.

The JMS 112: Jive Talkin’!
Posted by Josh | Filed under Meaningful Labor, The Josh Mormann Show
Let’s start off with some Jive Talkin’ by the Bee Gees! Well, I had too much to drink to be recording a show, but it was good hanging out with Tim at The Burren. I just kinda ramble about what I’d like to start doing for the show. I want to add real news, and I want to add some promos from other podcasts, to start sharing the love.
Show Goal: 1000 listeners by the end of June 2008
Music Played

A Bit of an Update
Posted by Josh | Filed under Me, Meaningful Labor
I have held off again at putting together a “WOW” of a site, and traded in for a something I could get done in a day. The look is obviously a bit more personalized, but the majority of the CSS is still the standard default from a Textpattern CMS install. I’m not in love with it, but it’s a bit more mine, and I feel a bit more comfortable exposing myself with it.
You’ll notice on the left, that I have updated the links. These are all links to my various profiles available throughout the web. I’m also going to post a bunch of my older stuff as well. So if all goes well, and I don’t get Buffy side-tracked, there should be several “new” entries appearing in order of when they were first published on earlier and various blogs I’ve hosted in the past.
Added: It looks like I’ve gotten side-tracked by a missing feature of Textpattern rather than more Buffy. I can’t adjust the date of the posted documents without going directly into the database (as far as I’ve been able to figure). I’ll have to hold off on adding old content until I have this figured out.
Added: Now I have it figured out, but now it’s time for bed… Tomorrow this shall be done.
A Good “Life Hack” to start with
Posted by Josh | Filed under Hope for the Future, Me, Meaningful Labor
Some really good advice and perhaps the best introduction to the concept of a life hack. Some of these ways go hand in hand with what I was saying in my last post, making me feel somewhat vindicated in my words, and some stand on their own, causing me to consider altering my points made just a little. You’ll notice though, that it’s worded like a collection of “that shalts” and “shalt nots,” and I find that interesting because it gives me food for a theory I plan on putting in essay form for you somewhere in the future, and that is that all laws and commandments are written with the intent to compel people to live good advice, rather than just being good advice. I have a lot of research yet to do, but I promise to site all my sources.
Reading Myself Write
Posted by Josh | Filed under Me, Meaningful Labor
None of the following is going to be much of a revelation to anyone but me, and to me, the following already has been my revelation. That being said however, I think I’ve finally made it past some interesting road blocks in my life both mentally and professionally in the past few hours.
It is often fascinating to me how these eye-opening experiences come about in my life. As much as one should probably quiet ones mind I always divine my answers from recognizing the wise tones of thought that are occasionally audible amidst the cacophony of my ordinary thoughts.
Today, while staring, in growing frustration at my computer screen, that has yet to display any good news for my endless, but still limited (by funding) efforts in the unfortunately necessary voodoo practice of Search Engine Optimization (SEO), a small thought hit me. The thought didn’t come to me unaided mind you, it was sparked by the great Jacob Jaffe, when he was defending his blogging on a recent Podcast of his.
Lately, I have noticed an increase in frustration caused by a condition I call EIOT or endless interest in other things. Call it ADD if you like but my girlfriend has some pretty intolerant views on it being a condition treatable by anything but one’s on psyche. I have contradicting views to hers, but they aren’t to be explained in this entry.
Because I rarely focus on any given personal project long enough to even start it, let alone finish it, I have yet to get serious about any one of my Internet-based projects. I have an almost pathological tendency to create new ideas before any earlier ideas can make it to the starting line. My interests are varied, and divers. As a result, my growing desire to both compartmentalize my ideas, and plan them out, puts all my ideas, and would be dreams into a holding pattern while the next distracting idea comes to the surface. Often the distracting idea comes to this “surface” as a direct result of my attempts to compartmentalize, and plan the earlier ones. Basically if I were some kind of a fractal, or plant like organism, I would have very short branches, that branch off quickly, no trunk like a tree, more like a moss, or one of those fungi that look like moss.
Jaffe mentioned how he makes no attempt to excuse himself for his blog, and how the material covered isn’t going to be directly related to his main drive of marketing, he writes about what ever he wishes, and whenever he wishes. Because his main interests are in the Marketing industry, his blog is primarily marketing related, but there is no reason he can’t have photos of his family, or stories about his own efforts in weight loss, or anything else that he might want to cover.
Why this has been such a difficult albeit liberating concept for me to discover on my own is beyond me. So, as scatterbrained, and poorly written this entry is, this is the entry that explains that, I’m going to begin my Blog for real now. Anything I want to cover here, I will [Dammit].
As part of this declaration of Blogging Liberty, I will begin with what works out to be both an apology and a warning:
To my family and friends who think I am still a soft-spoken, word of wisdom-keeping, youth leader for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, I don’t mean to offend you, or hurt your feelings, but if you’ve always thought of me as a roll model for your children, now is a time to reconsider the notion. I have been my own self since I was born over 34 years ago, but as of 4 years ago, I started living my own self too. I’ve taken a few people with me along the way so my words can be mind altering at times. I do as I wish, and I say what I wish, and I expect others to do the same. it has always been kept to my much closer, and much more understanding social circle. Blogs [of mine] in the past that have hosted my true feelings have been shut down due to hurt feelings, but the words that were once removed, will now be placed here, for people to read and associate to truly be from yours truly.
I now believe, and will likely be writing about things related to the following:
There are two forces in the universe, and we need both, one is often considered positive, and the other is often considered negative. Together they create all things. Without opposites, we would have nothing, and nothing in itself is but a cancellation of the two, and therefore has its place in this universe as well.
All things are relative to one’s own perspective, and desires. What is good for one, can and often is bad for another, therefore nothing is Truly Bad, or Truly Good, things just are what they are, and we attach our own meanings.
All rules are a collective attempt to compromise on ideals for the purposes reducing moral relativity. By attempting to establish a right and a wrong, [and therefore a good and bad] organizations, be they governments, religions, fraternities or families can move in their own ways toward their collective goals. I don’t believe this is wrong, this just was is, and why it happens.
We are entitled to our own beliefs, and theories, but we must remember that they are only that, and that they may not truly be our own. In point of fact, our feelings and beliefs may be and are actually more likely to be those of a group that we participate in, be it intentionally organized, or of more organic origin.
These Truths do not need to be accepted on my word, but can be learned at any level of magnitude or magnification one may wish to examine them. Whether one seeks the knowledge through chemical or meditative means one will learn that one there is no difference between chemical and meditative other than method, and two, that I speak only the Truth.
Water seeks its own level, but water can be calm as glass, or as destructive as a Tsunami as it seeks it.
I will be blogging about: sex, drugs, music, habits, tastes, shows, obsessions, religions, philosophy, magick, the occult, the obvious, conspiracies and memes, my day job, my personal projects, and anything else I hope I won’t be a wimp and apologize for.
