Sell How to Make Money, to Make Money

“I’ll teach you how to get rich like me—for a small fee.“

It’s a brilliantly recursive scheme, and honestly, I love it. I see it every day, and I’ve fallen for the basic pitch at least a dozen times in my life time, but there’s a new twist in town, and it’s brilliant. The new get rich gang has trimmed it all down nicely. No one falls for “get rich selling x,” anymore, people would rather pay for secrets they can apply to their own business ideas. ”Internet marketing secrets,“ and ”social media monetization secrets,“ are all the rage now. We still want to buy in so that we can get rich too, but this time we’re being flattered into thinking we will be supplying part of the equasion. We don’t have to sell fancy supplements, or skin care products; and we don’t need to learn real estate; or how to buy wisely at auto auctions anymore, (unless we actually want to) we can get rich doing what we already love to do!

Here’s my email address. Where’s the Paypal button? I’m in!!

Let’s be square here, the only reason the new gang of online marketing gurus is successful is because people are buying their advice in hopes to make bank. What makes this new twist so interesting to though, is that by leaving out the specific [what to buy low] they can: 1. flatter us into thinking we can apply these methods to our own products/passions, 2. eliminate the need to guarantee any specific product success, and 3. cut way back on materials costs. Mo’money, mo’money, mo’money!

Brilliant!

You can start a business teaching people how to improve their golf swing, install home security systems, or craft their own fly rods in online video demonstrations, or a downloadable PDF file! Mmmmmm, I can see all the decimal places in my Paypal account now! But lets get real, you’ll only start to REALLY make money when you leverage the story of your moderate niche market success toward a more generalized marketing advice product line like the big boys do.

The possibility of big Money—nothing sells better. (Sex is a relatively distant second these days)

Network marketed brands like Amway, and Herbalife know this. Even though everyone knows someone who’s lost friends due to their attempts at network marketing, these companies remain hugely successful, while new networks are popping up all the time (Agel, NuSkin, Mona Vie, Mary Kay, Nikken, just to name a few). Why do you think that is? Is it because people really like vitamins, magnets, and beauty products? Well, sure, people like those things, and some of these networks offer the highest quality products available (not sarcasm), but the idea of working your own hours, from home for mmmmmm money, sounds really good too, right?

The yogis of internet marketing, and social media monetization have an even better idea though: just sell the business advice part—directly; don’t bother with coming up with a better nutriceutical, or ointment, or the elaborate network distribution channels. Hell no! Just sell the marketing advice (you could make a lot of money) part at full price, no slight of hand. People will gladly pay for sound business advice the fantasy that comes embedded with all well written, ”how-to.”

You can learn all the business advice they could ever teach you by reading blogs and and a couple books that have been around long enough that you can pick them up at the library, but it’s not as much fun. I’ve heard and read what most of these guys have to say countless times, I’ve even come up with some of the techniques they teach on my own, but I buy into what the gurus have to say because I love the enthusiasm they have, their excitement, their contagious zeal for success, their inclusive approach, and their camaraderie. They are always encouraging, and we all need some encouragement now and then.

Here are some fun gurus (making millions off people like me):

Jo Han Mok (Writer of compelling copy)
Jeff Walker (Product launch guru)
Sterling and Jay (Internet Business Masters)
