Been Busy, Busy, Busy

Hello All,

I’ve been busy these past few days (months). Playing with other CMSs, and hating them, and then finally coming back to TXP, and loving it all over again thanks to the Friends of Ed book on TXP, and the amazing work of Vladimir Agafonkin who did this phenomenal TXP template system, with perfect instructions for install.

It looks like this very talented, standards following, Vlad hails from where I think is the next talent threat to the US is. India was first, China second (and still the largest) but trust me, anyone using the Cyrillic Alphabet is dangerous, and you’re better off hiring or outsourcing to them at their current great rates than trying to compete with them after they all move to the states, or the USD loses value over there like it is anywhere else. I work for a company that is almost 50% Ukrainian, and they are all brilliant, and even in the states are willing to work for less than most people of their intelligence that grew up state-side. They are really cool guys too. I haven’t worked with a more interesting, or more talented team in my life. Sometimes I feel their talent is being wasted on boring products. (But you didn’t hear that from me.)

Well, after reading the 4-Hour Work Week I’ve decided that outsourcing isn’t bad if you’re the one outsourcing, and there’s no reason why you can’t. You should read it, you’ll see what I mean. Now, as a designer, it is always tough thinking of someone else doing my design work, but I have realized that I have goals, and very little time, and without outsourcing, and taking on/accepting pre-packaged solutions, I’ll never reach my goals. I figure as a start, and in a way, choosing a layout/template system created by someone else, is my first foray into outsourcing.

I don’t plan on keeping the look exactly the same, but the functionality of Vlad’s work is outstanding, and I plan only to make it mine, not to completely change what he’s done. This template system in my opinion is the best yet written for TXP. It’s different in Layout, and more professional in usability than the default, or the majority of other templates available for TXP.

If you haven’t noticed, this entry is just a babblefest, I’m really just thinking out loud about getting back into my blog(s) while chatting with friends on iChat (a la Leopard).

Sounds cool, Josh. I think that seventeen syllable servitor is really up to something. I’d like to talk more about it sometime, but…keep on keeping on!
